How AltarNotes collects, uses, and protects your information
Welcome to AltarNotes. We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the AltarNotes app and website, how we use it, and the choices you have.
You may use AltarNotes as a guest without creating an account. Guest sessions are assigned an anonymous token. Guest data is stored locally on your device and on our servers only while the guest session is active. If you upgrade to a full account, your guest data is migrated. If you uninstall the app, unrecovered guest data may be permanently lost.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your sermon content for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than delivering the features you requested.
Your data is stored on servers hosted by our hosting provider. All API communication between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text.
Audio recordings are stored on our servers only for as long as needed to complete transcription, after which the audio file is deleted and only the transcript text is retained. Profile pictures are stored in a private directory and served only to authenticated users who own the account.
While we take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to sign out of shared devices.
AltarNotes integrates with the following third-party services. Each has their own privacy policy:
AltarNotes may send push notifications to remind you to review a sermon at times you configure. To deliver these, your device's Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token is stored on our servers and associated with your account.
You can disable push notifications at any time through your device's system settings or by turning off reminders in the app. Disabling notifications does not delete your account or data.
AltarNotes Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not collect, store, or process your payment card details directly. Subscription status is verified through Qonversion's SDK.
When a subscription is confirmed as active, we update your account's Pro status. We never downgrade your Pro status based on subscription signals alone — if you believe your subscription status is incorrect, please contact support.
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@altarnotes.com. We will respond within 30 days.
We retain your account and sermon data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is deleted within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal obligations (e.g., tax records related to subscription transactions).
Audio recordings are deleted from our servers immediately after the transcript is generated. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.
AltarNotes is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via a push notification or an in-app message and update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of AltarNotes after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
If you have questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or the handling of your personal data, please reach out:
